About the Role

This position serves as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) within the UCHA SANE department at the UCHealth Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion in Aurora, Colorado. The role is critical for performing forensic examinations of individuals who have been sexually assaulted or impacted by violence, while providing comprehensive patient care and referrals.

In this fast-paced, onsite capacity, you will take a medical history and account of the assault, assessing the patient's psychological condition and performing a physical examination. Your responsibilities include collecting and preserving evidence, gathering relevant specimens, and documenting findings with precision. You will provide direct nursing care for injuries and administer prophylactic medications, referring patients to appropriate personnel or facilities for further treatment as necessary.

A key component of this role involves communicating with victims and their families regarding evidence collection, treatment recommendations, and reporting to law enforcement (excluding mandated reporting cases) in a manner that promotes informed decisions. You will also provide victim advocacy and may offer expert testimony in court trials. Success in this position requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision during night shifts.
