This position serves as a specialized Registered Nurse within the Parkland nursing professional practice model, focusing on patients who have experienced violence. The role is designed to coordinate comprehensive patient care delivery, utilizing the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, and evaluate care for specific health conditions. The RN acts as a critical resource for the healthcare team, ensuring patients transition through their healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays.
As a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), you will provide complete trauma-informed medical forensic examinations to adolescents and adults. This involves independent judgment in providing specialized care, collecting physical and photographic documentation of injuries, and performing legal blood draws at the request of law enforcement. The role extends beyond clinical care to include serving as a patient advocate, ensuring rights and confidentiality are maintained, and acting as a nursing resource for physicians and residents.
The position requires active participation in the legal and community aspects of forensic nursing. You will engage in information exchanges with the VIP/Rape Crisis Center, law enforcement, and the District Attorney's Office, and may be called upon to testify in court as an expert or fact witness. Additionally, you will play a key role in mentoring new Forensic Nurses, participating in quality assurance projects, and staying current with advancements in forensic nursing practice through seminars and professional organizations.
