About the Team
ChristianaCare is seeking a compassionate, skilled Registered Nurse to join our dedicated medical team at the William Marion Stevenson House Detention Center in Milford, DE. Stevenson House is a lock-secure facility accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA), staffed for 55 pre-adjudicated male and female youth ranging from 10 to 18 years old.
Our nurses are not just caregivers; they are mentors, educators, and stabilizing forces for youth navigating complex trauma. You will work alongside a close-knit multidisciplinary team that values trauma-informed care, family engagement, and individualized care planning. This role serves as the on-site clinical leader, providing direct medical care and managing urgent situations while helping to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment that supports a culture of accountability, empathy, and professional excellence.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circlePerform patient assessments, triaging, treatments, and medication administration
- check_circleConduct intake screenings and health evaluations for newly admitted youth
- check_circleInterpret abnormal test values and perform EKGs independently as indicated
- check_circleRespond to medical emergencies and provide crisis intervention
- check_circleCollaborate with MDs, APNs, behavioral health, and detention staff for care coordination
- check_circleEducate youth on health, hygiene, and wellness
- check_circleMaintain accurate medical records in compliance with ACA standards
- check_circleUphold infection control policies and maintain a safe high-risk clinical environment
- check_circleEnsure compliance with VFC, PREA, Suicide Awareness/Response, and ACA audit requirements
- check_circleMonitor patient conditions, vital signs, and treatment responses while documenting thoroughly
Requirements
- verifiedCurrent Delaware RN license
- verifiedBLS certification
- verifiedBSN preferred; ADN/ASN considered with 3-year BSN completion agreement
Nice to Have
BSN degree; experience with adolescents who have endured complex trauma, pediatrics, psychiatric nursing, community health, emergency care, and/or correctional settings.
