About the Role

We are a staffing agency connecting skilled tradespeople with leading shipyard clients. This position is a temporary opportunity for two openings on the 3rd shift, focusing on the critical task of rigging materials for ship loading and yard operations.

As a Rigger, you will be the vital link between heavy machinery operators and the physical movement of cargo. Your day involves rigging materials to lift, move, and position them onto ships or around the yard. You will convey precise instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers using hand signals, loudspeakers, or telephone to ensure safe and efficient operations. The role requires you to locate, load, and unload materials on and off ships, as well as test and install various rigging equipment such as cargo booms, elevators, and boat davits.

You will be responsible for selecting the appropriate cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, braces, and cushions based on the weight, distribution, and size of the load. The job demands the ability to control the movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces and to work safely at heights.

Working Environment

This role takes place in a dynamic shipyard environment. You will be exposed to fumes, dusts, mists, odors, and gases, as well as constantly moving machines and mechanical parts. The environment features a high level of constant noise, requiring the use of protective equipment such as ear plugs and respirators. The work involves frequent physical exertion, including lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing rigging equipment, as well as climbing scaffolds, crawling through small openings, and maintaining balance in various positions.

Application Instructions

Candidates must be prepared to start onboarding immediately upon selection, adhering to Labor Providers Policies and Procedures. Successful applicants will need to obtain a DBIDS (Defense Base Identification Card) and Ship Access. Additionally, you must be scheduled for and complete the High Reach Class certification.
