About the Role
Labor One is seeking experienced Riggers for a Ship Repair project in San Diego, California. This role is critical to the safe and efficient operation of vessel maintenance, requiring individuals who can manage complex rigging tasks within a dynamic shipyard environment.
The successful candidate will be technically proficient in equipment operation, including the selection and setup of cables, pulleys, winches, and blocks. You will be responsible for attaching loads to crane hooks, interpreting load charts and blueprints, and directing crane operators to ensure the safety of all personnel and materials. The position involves a hands-on approach to setting up hoisting equipment, handling anchors and chains, and testing lifeboats and ship cranes.
Work Environment & Safety
This position operates in a demanding physical environment that ranges from wet and humid conditions to extreme heat and cold. The shipyard setting is often loud and involves exposure to moving mechanical parts and high places. Strict adherence to Company safety rules and OSHA standards is mandatory, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety harnesses, and respirators.
The role requires the ability to navigate all vessels, piers, docks, and work sites. Employees must be physically capable of climbing stairs, scaffolding, and ladders, working at heights above 12 feet, and maneuvering in confined spaces. The job also demands the ability to withstand varying temperatures and work on uneven surfaces.
