About the Role

Labor One is seeking Journey-Level Riggers for a specialized Ship Repair project in San Diego, California. This role is critical to maintaining operational safety and efficiency within the shipyard environment. The successful candidate will serve as a technically proficient team member, responsible for the safe lifting, moving, and rigging of heavy loads on vessels and piers.

Day in the Life

You will operate with a strong mechanical aptitude, utilizing your knowledge of ship terminology, blueprints, and job specifications to execute daily assignments. Your day involves selecting appropriate cables, pulleys, winches, and blocks based on load weight and size, and attaching them to overhead structures or crane hooks. You will set up crane hoisting equipment, interpret load charts, and provide clear directions to crane operators to ensure the safety of all personnel and materials.

The position requires a hands-on approach to quality and safety compliance. You will be accountable for completing work assignments, signing off on quality checks, and fostering a work environment that adheres to strict health, safety, and environmental regulations. This role also offers the opportunity to train subordinates and work collaboratively within a team that values business-like relationships free of bias or harassment.
