This role is situated within the Behavioral Services department at the MATS Center, a vital component of the UNM Health Systems. The team is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support to individuals seeking behavioral health services, ensuring a seamless and compassionate experience from the moment they arrive.
As a key member of the Ambulatory/Outpatient Operations area, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients, particularly those in the custody of law enforcement agencies (PICLEA), as well as walk-in visitors and those calling into the center. This position is critical in bridging the gap between clinical care and administrative logistics, ensuring that every patient is properly registered, their insurance eligibility is verified, and their financial options are clearly understood before they receive care.
Your day will involve managing the full spectrum of pre-registration and registration functions. You will verify insurance coverage, secure necessary referrals and prior authorizations, and assist patients in navigating complex financial assistance programs, including UNM Health Systems charity care, NM Medicaid, and other state and federal programs. Beyond data entry and documentation, you will act as a liaison between clinic staff, providers, and insurance payors to coordinate benefits and authorizations. You will also handle professional phone inquiries via the ACD system, manage front desk operations, and ensure adherence to all hospital policies and procedures. This is a non-clinical role focused on operational efficiency, patient advocacy, and accurate financial processing.
Candidates are evaluated based on their relevant experience and ability to handle sensitive patient information with professionalism. The selection process typically involves a review of qualifications followed by an interview to assess customer service skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with healthcare administrative workflows.
UNM Health Systems is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
