This Registered Nurse position is based at the Mary Brigh 5CF (MB5CF) unit, a surgical cardiovascular progressive care facility serving both adult and pediatric patients. The unit features 37 beds and handles a diverse census including coronary bypass grafts, valve repair/replacements, left ventricular assist devices, congenital anomaly repairs, and medical-surgical patients requiring ECG monitoring. Patients are drawn from local, national, and international sources.
In this role, you will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care. Your day-to-day responsibilities include direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. A key aspect of this unit is rhythm identification and interpretation, with all patient rooms equipped with ECG monitoring. Additional monitoring services such as SpO2, non-invasive blood pressure, and arrhythmia detection are utilized to meet specific patient needs.
The nursing team focuses on pulmonary care, promoting independence in activities of daily living, providing emotional support, and managing extensive discharge planning. You will utilize the nursing process alongside a primary care delivery system. The role offers opportunities for leadership through preceptorship, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. You will also participate in mentoring and teaching, delegating patient care based on skill level, experience, and patient acuity.
