About the Role
As a Railroad Flagger, you will play a critical role in keeping workers safe on train tracks by controlling train movements and enforcing federal safety rules. This position supports a diverse range of clients, from Class 1 railroads to state DOT rail divisions and contractors. You will be the eyes and ears on the ground, coordinating activities at the job site and ensuring that all personnel adhere to strict railroad, state, and federal regulations.
Day in the Life
Your day will be dynamic and field-focused. You will lead safety briefings before work begins, communicate clearly with dispatchers, train crews, and contractors, and spot any rule violations to address them immediately. The role requires high organization and attention to detail as you complete daily reports on work activities and maintain on-track safety. You will utilize basic computer tools, including Citrix and Android tablets, to manage communications and documentation. Expect to travel extensively, often spending months on the road, working in varying weather conditions and environments that may be dusty, noisy, or uneven.
Hiring Process
Candidates selected for this position must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, as well as drug and alcohol testing. All new hires are required to complete mandatory classroom training before beginning field duties.
