National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is a certified DBE/WBE firm and the most trusted name in the railroad industry for providing qualified field safety staff and safety training. With a proven safety record, NRSS serves major railroads, smaller rail lines, transit systems, and contractors across the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Safety is a core value at NRSS. We operate under the principle that no job is so urgent that it cannot be done safely. Our mission is to ensure the protection of workers, customers, and communities while maintaining leadership in railroad safety.
As a Railroad Flagger, you will play a critical role in keeping workers safe on active train tracks by controlling train movements and enforcing federal safety rules. This position supports a diverse range of clients, from Class 1 railroads to state transportation projects. You will be the frontline guardian of on-track safety, coordinating activities at job sites and ensuring that all contractors and crew members adhere to strict railroad, state, and federal regulations.
Your work will take you to field environments across the country, often requiring travel for extended periods. You will lead safety briefings, communicate clearly with dispatchers and train crews, and maintain detailed daily reports. Success in this role requires the ability to spot and address rule violations immediately while maintaining strong relationships with clients. You will be working outdoors in varying weather conditions, navigating uneven ground, and utilizing digital tools to manage safety protocols.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, drug and alcohol testing, and mandatory classroom training. The interview process will assess your technical knowledge of railroad safety, your ability to handle field conditions, and your fit within our safety-first culture.
