National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is a certified DBE/WBE firm and the most trusted name in the railroad industry for providing qualified field safety staff and safety training. With a proven safety record, NRSS delivers services across the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico to major railroads, smaller rail lines, transit systems, state transportation projects, and contractors.
Safety is a core value at NRSS. We operate under the principle that no job is so urgent that it cannot be done safely. Our mission is to ensure the protection of workers, customers, and communities while maintaining leadership in railroad safety.
As a Railroad Flagger, you will be the frontline guardian of worker safety on active train tracks. This role is critical for controlling train movements and enforcing federal safety rules to support a diverse range of clients, from Class 1 railroads to state DOT projects. You will serve as the primary point of contact on-site, coordinating activities, leading safety briefings, and ensuring that all contractors and staff adhere to strict railroad, state, and federal regulations.
This is a dynamic field position where you will work in varied environments, often facing extreme weather, dust, and noise. You will be responsible for spotting and addressing rule violations, maintaining on-track safety, and communicating clearly with dispatchers, train crews, and railroad staff. Success in this role requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to build strong client relationships while traveling extensively (50% - 85% of the time) for periods that may last months.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, as well as drug and alcohol testing. All new hires are required to complete mandatory classroom training before beginning field duties.
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
