About the Team

The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Maine Office of Information Technology (MaineIT) provides critical IT support to over 13,000 employees and oversees large-scale enterprise applications that serve the diverse business needs of the State of Maine. MaineIT is guided by its core CARE values: Customer-focus, Accountability, Responsiveness, and Empathy. These values drive how the team ensures customer needs are met, maintains transparency with stakeholders, provides timely updates, and delivers people-focused services through emotional intelligence.

About the Role

The Director of Application Development is a senior technology leader responsible for shaping and delivering the State of Maine's enterprise application strategy. In this role, you will partner closely with MaineIT's executive leadership, fellow directors, and agency partners to ensure technology solutions effectively support statewide goals, deliver value, and enable long-term modernization.

You will provide strategic direction and operational leadership for multiple application development and support teams. This includes setting vision and priorities, overseeing application portfolios, guiding modernization efforts, and ensuring reliable, secure, and high-quality application services across executive branch agencies. As a key part of the Enterprise Shared Services leadership team, you will work with other Application Directors to align investments, standardize practices, and advance the State's digital strategy.

Success in this position requires strong relationship-building and collaboration skills. You will serve as a trusted partner to agency leadership, negotiating priorities, balancing competing demands, and driving shared outcomes across organizational boundaries. The Director of Applications operates with significant autonomy, expected to bring strong strategic thinking, sound judgment, and a commitment to service excellence in support of Maine's mission and the citizens it serves.

Hiring Process

Please submit a cover letter along with a current resume and three (3) professional references. To ensure your qualifications are properly evaluated, your resume must include the month and year for any relevant experience listed, along with the duties and responsibilities associated with each position. Any experience that was not full-time employment should be identified as such.

For more information or specific questions regarding this position, please contact recruiting.ggsc@maine.gov. If you are unable to complete the online application, please contact the Human Resources representative listed on the job opening for an alternative method of submitting. If you require a paper application, it can be downloaded and printed from the official portal.

Culture & Equal Opportunity

The State of Maine embraces a culture of respect and awareness. As an Equal Opportunity employer, we are committed to creating a strong sense of belonging for all team members and ensuring an inclusive environment for applicants of all backgrounds, including diverse race, color, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, physical or mental disability, religion, age, ancestry, national origin, familial status, or genetics.

We believe in supporting our workforce's health and wellbeing with a valuable total compensation package. Our aim is to create a workplace where you can learn, grow, and continuously refine your skills. Research shows that people from historically excluded communities tend to apply to jobs only when they check every box in the posting. If you are hesitating to apply for that reason, we encourage you to go for it! Let us know how your experience and passion set you apart.

Reasonable accommodations are provided to qualified individuals with disabilities upon request. The selected candidate will be required to pass the required background checks (fingerprinting may be required) as a condition of employment.
