Project Engineer

About the Role

The TSS Project Engineer serves as the engineering manager for design and procurement activities across a diverse portfolio of projects within Southern Company. This role bridges the gap between engineering execution and operational needs, managing the scope, budgets, and schedules for initiatives ranging from large capital investments to small maintenance and retrofit efforts. These projects support critical infrastructure, including gas storage and compression facilities, as well as fossil and renewable electric generating assets.

As the primary point of contact for engineering deliverables, you will work closely with plant personnel and Southern Company Gas project management. Your day-to-day involves developing contract documents, overseeing the award and execution of outsourced engineering work, and managing material procurement. You will also play a key role in supporting design and process safety reviews for natural gas processing plants, liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, and compressor stations.

Work Environment & Location

This position is based out of The Energy Center in Birmingham, AL, or the Southern Company Gas Corp HQ in Atlanta, GA. The role operates on a hybrid schedule, typically requiring four days in-office or at a plant/field site and one day of telecommute, though this is subject to adjustment. The position also requires travel up to 25% to various gas facilities for days and overnight stays. Relocation assistance may be provided for candidates who do not currently live within a reasonable commute distance.
