About the Team

Amazon's Global Engineering Services (GES) North America Design & Construction team is a diverse, upbeat, and creative group of designers, engineers, and managers. We operate as true owners, leveraging unique opportunities from design review and permitting through construction bidding and consultant management. Our mission is to develop innovative, sustainable facilities and efficient buildings that support Amazon's global logistics network. We are driven by our leadership principles: Delivering Results, Bias for Action, and Insisting on the Highest Standards.

About the Role

As a Preconstruction Manager, you will serve as Amazon's owner's representative during the preconstruction phase of facility delivery. This role is designed to independently manage difficult, cross-functional industrial projects ranging from site selection and validation through design management, permitting, and contract execution. You will be the key support resource for the construction team, ensuring a clean, well-defined handoff and remaining involved throughout the project lifecycle.

Projects include fulfillment centers, sortation centers, delivery stations, and auxiliary buildings, covering everything from targeted renovations to large-scale new facility builds. You will partner with internal teams (Real Estate, Design Engineering, Finance, Construction) and external stakeholders (architects, engineers, developers, landlords, and permitting agencies) to establish scope, budget, and schedule. Your work combines construction engineering, planning, project management, real estate development, multi-disciplinary design management, and contract management.

A Day in the Life

Each day, you represent GES NA Design & Construction as Amazon's owner, navigating uncertainty and proactively unblocking project barriers to influence the best decisions. Your day may involve:

  • Coordinating with architects, engineers, and design consultants on design document development and scope changes.
  • Reviewing site plans and composite floor plans for compliance with Amazon's standards and operational requirements.
  • Negotiating contract terms with developers and contractors while driving adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinating with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) on permitting status, zoning, and code requirements.
  • Preparing and presenting project status and risk reports for leadership.
  • Partnering with Real Estate and Transaction teams on entitlement strategy and long-lead procurement.
  • Updating project management systems with current budget, schedule, and status information.

Hiring Process & Application

If you are not sure that every qualification on the list describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you! At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skill sets. If you're passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply.

Equal Opportunity & Culture

Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. If you have a disability and need a workplace accommodation or adjustment during the application and hiring process, please visit our accommodations page for more information.
