Emory University is a leading research university dedicated to fostering excellence and attracting world-class talent to innovate for the future. The Emory National Primate Research Center (EPC), one of seven NPRCs funded by the NIH, is a cornerstone of this mission. EPC is committed to discovering causes, preventions, treatments, and cures for disease, improving human and animal health worldwide. The Division of Microbiology and Immunology at EPC boasts an outstanding record of productive research in areas highly relevant to HIV, including vaccination therapy, pathogenesis, and mucosal immunology.
The Division of Microbiology and Immunology is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Vijayakumar Velu. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with HIV-infected human cohorts and nonhuman primate models, such as rhesus macaques. The research also extends to studying immune responses in human papillomavirus-related cervical and anal cancers in people living with HIV, focusing on the immunologic underpinnings of HPV infection, the microbiome, periodontal disease, and social determinants linked to lesion progression.
Collaborate. Innovate. Serve. These three words capture the ethos of the EPC. As a Post Doctoral Fellow, you will be a team player motivated to learn on the job, collaborating closely with lab members, center staff, PIs, and students. You will ensure the highest quality of laboratory research support while developing new ideas to promote current research. This position is ideal for someone with laboratory research experience familiar with viral immunology, diagnostics, and immune profiling bio-marker arrays who is passionate about making a positive impact in the science community.
Positions are temporary appointments as research trainees, with an initial term of one year. Renewal is expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available, though appointments cannot exceed five years. The work schedule will be discussed during the interview process.
Pre-Employment Requirements Emory University conducts pre-employment screenings for all positions, which may include background checks, verification of work history and academic credentials, drug screening, health assessments, and vaccination reviews. Updated COVID-19 vaccinations may be necessary for specific research projects. Please note that this position requires in-person work at an Emory University location; remote work is not an option.
