The Department of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where students, staff, and faculty thrive. As a minority-serving institution with a Hispanic-Serving Institution designation, CSUF is firmly committed to increasing campus diversity and ensuring that the curriculum and community reflect the rich tapestry of its population. The department seeks candidates who are passionate about advancing strategic diversity goals and supporting the well-being of a metropolitan, largely commuter campus with a highly diverse student body.
This 12-month, full-time Post-Doctoral Counselor position offers a unique opportunity to provide a comprehensive range of clinical services to college students. While holding faculty status for collective bargaining purposes, the role is primarily clinical, with 65% of time dedicated to direct counseling and 35% to campus outreach and special projects. The position serves as a vital link in the university's mental health ecosystem, addressing the developmental and psychological needs of a complex student population.
In this role, you will function as a key member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Your day-to-day work involves providing intake interviews, psycho-diagnostic assessments, and short-term individual therapy both in-person and virtually. You will also lead crisis intervention efforts, manage clinical triage, and coordinate care with consulting psychiatrists and off-campus agencies. Beyond direct clinical care, you will engage in proactive outreach by developing and delivering workshops, classroom presentations, and prevention projects tailored to the needs of traditionally underserved students. The position also requires serving as a liaison between CAPS and campus partners, offering consultation to faculty and student leaders on mental health issues, and participating in weekly supervision to ensure adherence to licensure laws and ethical standards.
