As a GS-0185-12 Social Worker, you will serve as a strategic partner to the commander's leadership team, playing a pivotal role in safeguarding the psychological health of the installation. This position exists to bridge the gap between psychological well-being and operational readiness, ensuring that the Air National Guard (ANG) community thrives both personally and professionally.
You will act as the primary advisor on psychological health, helping leadership understand how mental wellness impacts mission success. Your day-to-day involves coaching unit leaders to foster a "wingman culture" where seeking help is encouraged, and consulting on complex workplace dynamics such as unit cohesiveness, conflict resolution, and stress management. You will also lead briefings for newly appointed commanders and senior leaders, equipping them with the knowledge to support their teams effectively.
Beyond strategic planning, you will provide direct clinical services, including routine and crisis evaluations, psycho-diagnostic assessments, and short-term problem resolution. Whether on-site or via telehealth, you will coordinate with clinical and counseling services to support Airmen and their families. You will also design and implement prevention and community outreach programs, working with the Integrated Delivery System to build a culture of wellness through education on topics ranging from stress management to financial literacy.
This role is dynamic and multifaceted, requiring you to market psychological health services to ensure high utilization across the base, while also providing training to healthcare professionals and military leaders. You will track critical data, including suicide prevention and maltreatment metrics, to inform narrative reports and strategic decisions. As an essential personnel, you may be called upon to respond to state emergencies or disasters, and you may share on-call duties to ensure continuous support for the community.
