This position serves as a beginning-level law enforcement role designed to train candidates for certification as a sworn police officer. Under close supervision, the incumbent will learn to perform responsible law enforcement and crime prevention work while assisting in a wide variety of assigned duties.
The role functions as a learning capacity where you will accompany police officers to investigate incidents and crimes, complete written police reports, direct traffic, and maintain records. You will develop proficiency in operating two-way radios, switchboards, and other communications equipment to dispatch personnel, as well as skills in gathering and preserving evidence, taking fingerprints, and the use and care of firearms. Additionally, you will study Federal, State, and local law enforcement laws, rules, and regulations.
