The University Police Officer serves as a vital guardian of the campus community, dedicated to fostering a peaceful and safe environment conducive to student education. Operating within the jurisdiction of the Board of Regents, this role is mission-critical for the preservation of public peace, the protection of life and property, and the prevention and suppression of crime and traffic accidents.
In this position, you will act as the first line of defense for the university, enforcing all Federal, State, County, and City laws alongside specific University rules and regulations. Your day-to-day impact involves a dynamic blend of proactive patrol and responsive action. You will maintain constant radio communication with dispatch, monitor security systems for hazardous conditions, and remain alert to developing situations that could threaten safety. From directing traffic and managing large crowds during emergencies to assisting the public with accurate information and rendering first aid when qualified, you will be the face of safety and order on campus.
Beyond routine patrols, the role requires a commitment to justice and community service. You will be responsible for investigating accidents, preserving crime scenes, assembling evidence for court proceedings, and testifying as a witness. The position demands a high level of accountability, requiring you to execute orders from supervisors, maintain departmental equipment, and collaborate closely with local law enforcement agencies, District Attorneys, and the judiciary to ensure the proper carriage of justice.
Candidates selected for this position will be expected to maintain regular attendance and conduct themselves in a manner that merits the commendation of the community. Successful applicants will be required to familiarize themselves with and retain a working knowledge of all relevant laws, ordinances, and the Department Standard Operating Procedures Manual.
