The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) is dedicated to safeguarding the lives, property, and rights of residents across the county. We are seeking experienced law enforcement officers to join our patrol division as POST Lateral applicants. This role is designed for individuals who have already served as full-time peace officers and are ready to bring their expertise to Jefferson County. You will serve as the first line of defense, responding to a wide variety of calls ranging from assaults and burglaries to domestic disputes and traffic emergencies.
In this position, you will patrol assigned areas to deter crime, investigate felonies and misdemeanors, and mediate civil disputes. Your day will involve high-visibility patrols in official vehicles, conducting traffic enforcement, and securing crime scenes. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to gather evidence, prepare detailed reports, and testify in court. The role requires sound judgment in emergency situations, the ability to operate under stress, and a commitment to maintaining discipline and order while interacting with the public and other agencies.
To be considered for this lateral position, applicants must have two years of full-time patrol experience as a law enforcement officer. Out-of-state applicants will be evaluated based on their agency training compared to Colorado POST Board standards and must hold a CO POST Board provisional certification at the time of hire.
