The Planner serves as a vital administrative and analytical support within the Planning and Zoning department, driving both short-term and long-range community development initiatives. Reporting directly to the Director of Planning and Zoning, this role is designed to facilitate complex planning processes that shape the city's physical and social landscape.
In this position, you will collaborate on the research and analysis of urban and regional planning techniques. Your work will involve managing a diverse portfolio of current planning applications, including rezonings, variances, waivers, ordinance amendments, and conditional use permits. The role requires a blend of originality and creativity, as you will frequently compare alternative courses of action to make informed decisions on moderate to high-complexity tasks.
Your day will likely span both office and field environments. You will maintain considerable contact with the public, industry professionals, and various city officials, ensuring that development projects comply with approved plans and ordinances. Additionally, you may provide project management for grants and departmental studies, serving as a key liaison between the department and external agencies.
