The City of Oxnard Police Department, in partnership with the Planning Division, is dedicated to enhancing local safety and quality of life within the community. This role serves as a critical bridge between law enforcement, the Planning Division, and the public, focusing on crime prevention and regulatory compliance.
As a Temporary/Extra-Help FACT & Safety Neighborhood Compliance Specialist, you will focus on firearms, alcohol, cannabis, and tobacco compliance. This public safety position involves reviewing development plans through the Design Advisory Committee, applying Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles, and drafting safety-focused conditions for new projects. You will act as the primary liaison for the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) and serve as a technical expert for business owners regarding retail regulations.
Your day-to-day work includes conducting field inspections of retail cannabis sites and alcohol establishments, performing audits to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws, and managing the F.A.C.T. establishment database to inform department strategy. You will represent the department at Planning Commission and Small Business Review meetings, issue citations for non-compliance, and maintain meticulous records to support legal proceedings. This role requires a blend of office-based analysis and field work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as Police Department personnel are required to work a variety of shifts.
Applications are reviewed on a regular and ongoing basis, with early submissions encouraged. To apply, candidates must submit a NEOGOV/Government Jobs online application, including responses to supplemental questions and all required documents (resume, cover letter, proof of degree). Applications stating "see my resume" are considered incomplete and will be rejected. Selected candidates must pass a thorough background investigation and are required to serve as disaster service workers.
