Join New Mexico's only Level 1 trauma center and the state's only teaching hospital. Our outpatient rehabilitation department is a dynamic hub composed of highly trained, specialty-certified Occupational and Physical Therapists. As a member of the UNMH outpatient team, you will collaborate with PTAs, medical staff, and educators to deliver exceptional care. We foster a culture of growth where many of our therapists also teach in the UNM Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy programs, supporting a robust student internship program. New graduates are warmly welcomed into this collaborative environment.
This full-time position focuses on orthopaedic and primary care within our main outpatient rehabilitation department. You will organize and deliver medically prescribed physical therapy to restore function and prevent disability across the entire lifespan, from neonates to geriatric patients. Your day will involve evaluating functional abilities, designing treatment plans utilizing diverse modalities (exercise, massage, heat, water, etc.), and consulting with medical teams to optimize patient outcomes. Beyond direct patient care, you will educate patients and caregivers on safety and equipment use, supervise students and volunteers, and contribute to staff development through mentoring and in-service training. This role offers significant educational opportunities and the chance to shape the next generation of therapists.
We offer competitive shift differentials: 17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days. Additionally, a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance are available for qualified candidates. Compensation is determined by experience, education, and organizational needs.
Qualified candidates should submit their application with a valid New Mexico Physical Therapist License (or temporary license) and CPR certification. Bilingual skills in English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo are highly valued. The team is eager to review applications from new graduates and experienced professionals ready to make an impact in a teaching hospital setting.
