Join New Mexico's only Level 1 trauma center and the state's premier teaching hospital in a dynamic inpatient acute care role. This position offers a unique rotating schedule across all adult ICU and progressive care units within the Rehabilitation Services department. As a member of the UNMH physical therapy team, you will collaborate within a comprehensive rehab department that integrates both Occupational and Physical Therapy.
You will work alongside a group of highly skilled therapists and medical teams, providing care to patients across the entire lifespan, from neonates to geriatric populations. If desired, there is the opportunity to rotate through the Children's Hospital of New Mexico. This role is ideal for those seeking a vibrant environment where educational opportunities abound, with many team members actively teaching in the UNM Physical Therapy and/or Occupational Therapy educational programs.
In this rotating position, you will organize and deliver medically-prescribed physical therapy designed to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part. Your day-to-day involves evaluating patients to determine treatment goals and outlining therapy delivery that may include exercise, massage, heat, sound, water, light, and electricity. You will adapt therapy techniques to meet individual needs, instruct patients and caregivers on home safety and therapeutic regimens, and assess home environments for necessary modifications to maximize daily living activities.
Beyond direct patient care, you will serve as a consultant to medical staff, conduct training for nursing and ancillary personnel, and supervise physical therapy students and volunteers. The role emphasizes a proactive approach to patient safety, encouraging active patient participation in their own care and requiring timely reporting of any safety concerns or errors.
While experience is preferred, we warmly welcome new graduates. Selected candidates will be supported by a strong mentorship program designed to foster professional growth. We are looking for individuals who are eager to enhance their professional development through participation in educational programs, current literature, and workshops. Bilingual skills in English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo are considered a non-essential asset.
To apply, please ensure you possess a Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline and an active New Mexico Physical Therapist License (or Temporary License). CPR for Healthcare/BLS certification is required within 30 days of hire. We offer a competitive compensation package including shift differentials (17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days), a sign-on bonus, and relocation assistance. Compensation is based on factors including experience, education, and organizational considerations.
UNMH is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse workforce. We value the unique perspectives and backgrounds that all candidates bring to our team.
