The MDC Pharmacy department serves a diverse patient population ranging from neonates to geriatric adults, operating across both inpatient and outpatient settings. Our mission is to ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical care while maintaining strict adherence to federal, state, and JCAHO regulatory requirements. The team collaborates closely with licensed pharmacists, providers, and clinic staff to manage complex medication needs, including specialized programs for indigent patients and high-risk chemotherapy agents.
This position is a flexible, rotating shift role (PRN) designed to support the full spectrum of pharmacy operations. You will function as a versatile Pharmacy Technician, performing duties across Technician I, II, and III levels as needed. The role bridges the gap between clinical precision and operational efficiency, requiring you to navigate both the fast-paced environment of inpatient medication distribution and the patient-facing responsibilities of the outpatient pharmacy.
In the inpatient setting, you will manage automated dispensing systems, maintain controlled substance inventories, and assist with the training of new staff. Your day may involve auditing data integrity, coordinating medication shortages, and ensuring the timely preparation of sterile products and IV solutions. In the outpatient environment, you will serve as a key liaison for patients and providers, handling prescription adjudication, managing specialty medication logistics, and supporting patient assistance programs. Whether you are balancing a cash register, compounding hazardous agents, or conducting 340B compliance audits, your work directly impacts patient safety and care continuity.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent and complete the required Hospital Pharm Tech Training. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician in New Mexico and CPR/BLS certification are required within 60 and 30 days, respectively. Applicants should be prepared to undergo a security clearance process and tuberculosis testing as conditions of employment. The role requires a background capable of working in close proximity to incarcerated individuals and handling significant physical demands, including moving objects up to 100 pounds.
We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where patients and staff feel safe and respected. The department actively seeks bilingual candidates (English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, Navajo, or Spanish) to better serve our community. We prioritize patient safety through a proactive culture where team members are encouraged to question processes, report near misses, and actively participate in their own care and the care of others.
