The Pharmacy Resident serves as a vital leader within the Pharmacy Department, responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of departmental services. This role is designed to bridge clinical expertise with operational management, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.
In this position, you will supervise, monitor, and mentor pharmacy technicians and students, guiding them in the proper execution of policies and procedures. Your day-to-day activities involve a dynamic mix of clinical oversight and administrative responsibility. You will verify data entry, oversee IV preparation and chemotherapy compounds, manage inventory control, and review physician orders prior to dispensing. Beyond technical duties, you will actively contribute to pharmacy continued education and serve as an active member of state and national pharmacy societies.
This residency is a structured learning experience where you will complete specific rotations, projects, and activities as outlined in the Pharmacy Residency Program Manual. You will work under the direction of the Residency Program Director, Pharmacy Clinical Supervisor, and Pharmacy Manager, ensuring all assignments align with BDHS Pharmacy Residency Program standards and DNV requirements.
This role requires regular and sustained attendance in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts. On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs. The environment involves continuous exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, various chemicals, and emotionally challenging situations involving distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
Candidates must hold a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and obtain a Montana Pharmacist license, American Heart Association BLS, and ACLS certifications within one year of hire. Preference is given to those who have participated in the ASHP National Matching Service and completed pharmacy rotations or internships within a health-system setting.
