For more than 55 years, Family Health Centers of San Diego’s (FHCSD) mission has been to provide caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to everyone, with a special commitment to uninsured, low-income, and medically underserved persons. As one of the top 10 largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the country, we operate more than 90 sites across San Diego County. Our network includes primary care clinics, behavioral health facilities, physical rehabilitation clinics, dental and vision clinics, substance use treatment programs, mobile medical units, urgent care centers, and a pharmacy.
Our staff provides care to over 227,000 patients each year, 91% of whom are low-income and 29% are uninsured. We are the largest community clinic provider of health care to the uninsured in the county, the largest health care safety-net provider, the largest school-based health care provider, and the largest mental health provider in the San Diego region. Services range from adult care, pediatrics, and chronic disease management to comprehensive women’s care, dental, vision, and specialty services like cardiology and dermatology. We also offer intensive case management for those who are unsheltered.
This position serves as a vital front-line connection between our patients and our comprehensive care network. You will effectively manage the patient check-in and check-out process from start to finish, ensuring accurate identification verification, demographic updates, and insurance information confirmation. Your role involves collecting co-pays and payments, screening for eligibility and financial assistance, and ensuring all patient information is accurately and timely entered into our Electronic Health Record.
Beyond administrative accuracy, you will be a proactive customer service representative. You will contact patients to schedule appointments, send reminders, and respond to billing inquiries. Success in this role requires a proactive approach to listening to patients, taking ownership of solutions, and collaborating with leadership to resolve concerns. You will also handle general clerical duties such as scanning, data tracking, and sorting correspondence, while confirming and processing referrals for specialty services. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-workload environment where flexibility and accuracy are essential to supporting our diverse patient base.
Candidates are encouraged to apply directly through our career portal. The selection process typically involves a review of qualifications followed by an interview to assess both technical skills and cultural fit within our team-based environment.
