As a Dialysis Technician, you will serve as a vital member of the dialysis healthcare team, working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse to deliver safe and effective dialysis therapy. Your primary mission is to ensure patients receive high-quality care while maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant working environment. You will be responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, monitoring patient responses during treatment, and actively supporting the organization's commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
Your day begins by preparing the treatment area and machines, ensuring all safety alarms are enabled and equipment is sanitized according to strict facility policies. You will welcome patients, inquiring about their wellbeing since their last visit, and perform essential pre-treatment assessments, including vascular access evaluation and vital signs.
During treatment, you will initiate dialysis according to prescribed orders, calculating ultrafiltration goals and monitoring the patient's response to therapy. You will be the first line of defense for any intradialytic problems, providing interventions as directed and reporting any significant changes in patient condition immediately to the registered nurse. Post-treatment, you will safely discontinue therapy, obtain hemostasis, and evaluate the patient prior to discharge.
In the Transitional Care Unit, you will guide newly admitted patients through their first four weeks of dialysis, coordinating care across disciplines and assisting with education on home dialysis options. You will also participate in infection control audits, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and support the training of new staff members.
Successful candidates must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved certification requirements within the mandated timeline. A key condition of employment includes passing the Ishihara's Color Blindness test; however, failing this test does not automatically preclude employment, as the company will consider reasonable accommodations. Continued employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification.
