This position serves as a vital support role within the Neuroscience department, specifically focusing on the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). You will provide essential patient care and observation for individuals across the lifespan, from neonates to geriatric patients, ensuring their safety and well-being during complex monitoring periods.
In this role, you will work under the direction of licensed personnel to attentively observe designated patients via camera on the EMU and remotely on other in-patient units. A key part of your day involves recognizing and responding to routine and emergent behavioral events, notifying appropriate personnel of changes, and documenting patient behaviors. You will also play a critical role in optimizing EEG readings by preventing and eliminating artifacts.
Beyond direct patient monitoring, you will assist in planning and organizing activities in the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties. Your responsibilities include maintaining the physical environment, managing equipment and supplies, and verifying patient coverage eligibility for outside services. You will also provide basic patient care, such as tube insertion, wound care, phlebotomy, and assistance with activities of daily living, while adhering to strict hospital and departmental policies.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent, along with specific training as a Medical Assistant (MA), Patient Care Technician (PCT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or equivalent military discharge (DD214). One year of directly related experience is required. Bilingual proficiency in languages such as Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is considered a non-essential asset.
Successful candidates will be required to obtain CPR for Healthcare/BLS certification within 30 days of hire. A sign-on bonus is available for qualified applicants.
We are dedicated to maintaining a safe environment for both our patients and staff. This role requires adherence to patient safety protocols, including the proactive identification of environmental risks and the reporting of medical errors or near misses. We encourage all team members to question current policies to improve safety and to empower patients to actively participate in their own care.
