This position serves as a vital support within the Neuroscience Department, specifically focusing on the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and broader in-patient hospital units. The role is designed to provide essential patient care and observation support under the direction of licensed personnel, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients across the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
You will play a key part in the daily operations of the nursing station, assisting with the planning and organization of activities while maintaining a therapeutic environment. A significant portion of your day will involve attentively monitoring designated patients via camera systems on the EMU and remotely on other units. This includes recognizing and responding to routine and emergent behavioral events, documenting patient behaviors, and optimizing EEG readings by preventing or eliminating artifacts.
Beyond monitoring, you will provide basic patient care including tube insertion, wound care, phlebotomy, and assistance with activities of daily living such as meals, hygiene, and ambulation. You will also handle clerical and receptionist duties, maintain equipment and supplies, and verify patient coverage eligibility for outside services. Your work is critical in upholding the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home and fostering a proactive approach to patient safety.
