The Pathology Report Specialist serves as a vital operational hub within the Anatomic Pathology department. While the role encompasses essential clerical functions, its core purpose is to ensure the seamless flow of critical diagnostic information. You will be responsible for gathering necessary testing data, coordinating with external referral labs, and meticulously attaching results to patient medical records.
A day in the life involves a blend of independent work and close collaboration with pathologists and residents. You will prepare send-out specimens, type up complex reports for transfusion reactions and autopsies, and proofread gross dictations. The role requires a high degree of accuracy in medical terminology as you prepare pathologist consultation letters, manage slide and block preparations, and handle patient second-opinion requests. Additionally, you will support Tumor Board Conferences, manage departmental correspondence, and maintain inventory, ensuring the department operates efficiently and adheres to organizational standards.
