The Rapid Response Team at UNMH serves as a critical safety net across the hospital complex. Our mission is to decrease patient mortality and improve outcomes by providing immediate, expert intervention for deteriorating patients. We function as a unified force, responding to specialized alerts such as the DR. Heart team, Stroke Alert, DART, and Sepsis Response Team. As a member of this group, you act as a vital patient care advocate and liaison, bridging communication between multiple departments to ensure seamless, high-quality care.
This position operates within the scope of practice defined by the New Mexico Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and under the guidelines of the UNMH Rapid Response Medical Director. You will provide direct patient care across all age groups, from neonates to geriatric patients, functioning autonomously to stabilize individuals until definitive providers arrive.
Your day will involve rapid deployment to emergency situations both within the hospital and in outpatient areas. You will perform advanced life support procedures, including intubation, defibrillation, and ultrasound-guided venous puncture, while simultaneously managing complex patient assessments and adjusting therapies based on laboratory values. Beyond clinical skills, you will maintain a therapeutic environment, ensure equipment readiness, and actively participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. You will also play a key role in mentoring new employees and fostering strong professional relationships with physicians, families, and hospital staff.
This role offers competitive shift differentials: 17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days. A sign-on bonus and relocation assistance are available for qualified candidates. Compensation is determined by factors including experience, education, and organizational needs.
Candidates must hold an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License and relevant certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS). The hiring process involves verifying credentials, including a valid New Mexico Driver's License and UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit. New hires will be required to complete specific unit-based courses, such as the basic arrhythmia, Arterial Blood Gas, CEVO, and Ultrasound guided IV courses, within specified timeframes after starting.
UNMH is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, gender, or other protected characteristics.
