As a Para Sped Low Incidence support staff member, you will serve as a vital extension of the classroom team, working under the supervision of an administrator and the direct direction of a certificated teacher. Your primary mission is to facilitate the education and integration of students with low-incidence disabilities, ensuring they receive the intensive support necessary to thrive in both special and regular education settings.
This role is designed for individuals who are dedicated to fostering a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment. You will be the bridge between students and their curriculum, assisting with everything from academic reinforcement and behavior intervention to personal care and transportation. Whether supporting a student with low vision, assisting with physical transfers, or helping to defuse a crisis situation, your presence ensures that every student can access their education with dignity and safety.
Your day is dynamic and student-centered. You will work closely with the classroom teacher to implement behavior plans, manage classroom routines, and integrate technology such as SMART boards and iPads into daily lessons. A significant portion of your time will be spent facilitating social and academic integration, guiding students between assigned areas, and supporting their participation in school activities both on and off campus.
You will also be responsible for the physical well-being of your students, which may include assisting with hygiene, feeding, toileting, and physical transfers. In moments of crisis, you will be trained to react immediately and safely, utilizing techniques like Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) to protect the welfare of students and staff. Beyond the classroom, you will collaborate with parents, support staff, and the school nurse to ensure a cohesive support network for each child.
Candidates for this position must be prepared to undergo a Physical Capacity Test (PCT) as part of the qualification process. We are looking for individuals who demonstrate a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and a positive attitude when interacting with a diverse population of students, families, and colleagues.
