The Para Sped Low Incidence position serves as a vital support within USD 259, working directly under the supervision of administrators and the direction of certificated staff. This role is designed to assist teachers in the education of students with low-incidence disabilities, ensuring a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment. The position exists to facilitate the integration of special education students into regular education classrooms while providing essential physical, behavioral, and instructional support.
Day-to-day, you will interact with a diverse population of students, colleagues, parents, and vendors. Success in this role requires tact, diplomacy, and a positive attitude when handling all situations. You will be expected to manage classroom routines, assist with student behavior interventions, and support students with their basic needs, including hygiene, feeding, and physical transfers. The role demands high levels of physical stamina and manual dexterity, as you may need to lift up to 50 pounds (or 100 pounds with assistance), react immediately to emergencies, and work in various weather conditions.

Knowledge of sign language modalities, Braille, or Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) is required for specific positions.
