The Outpatient RN CAP 1 position serves as an entry-level designation within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). As a vital member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, you will provide and coordinate clinically competent care for an assigned group of patients. This role encompasses the full nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. You will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to make decisions, lead quality improvement activities, and enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.
In this capacity, you will direct the daily provision of safe and effective hemodialysis therapy. Your day involves systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment, ensuring adjustments to treatment plans are made as indicated. You will also play a key educational role, assessing and documenting patient and family learning needs to provide ongoing education regarding transplant options and treatment modalities. Additionally, you will serve as a resource for the healthcare team, participating in staff training and the orientation of new employees.
This position is designed to launch your career in nephrology nursing. By completing the CAP requirements, you will be on a clear path to advance within the Clinical Advancement Program. Success in this role requires meeting specific experience thresholds, including a minimum of nine months as an RN and three months in chronic or acute hemodialysis, to eventually qualify for Team Leader or Nurse in Charge oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs.
