This position serves as an entry-level designation within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP), designed to guide nephrology nurses from novice to expert. As an Outpatient RN CAP 1, you will join the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team to provide and coordinate clinically competent care. Your role involves assessing, planning, intervening, and evaluating care for an assigned group of patients, while also participating in decision-making, teaching, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes.
You will work in a collaborative environment, directing the daily provision of safe and effective hemodialysis therapy alongside direct and ancillary patient care staff. This includes performing systematic data collection before, during, and after treatments, administering medications, and serving as a resource for the healthcare team by assisting in the training and orientation of new staff. The role also emphasizes patient education, ensuring patients and families understand treatment options, including transplant possibilities.
The position is based at our Milwaukee clinic located at 161 W. Wisconsin Ave. Ste 1100. The schedule features 10-12 hour shifts on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday rotation, with Sundays off. Every other Saturday is required. The role includes a "No on-call" policy, allowing for predictable work-life balance.
The work environment is a controlled healthcare facility with moderate noise levels. Daily duties involve a mix of direct patient care, desk work, and computer interaction. The role may require occasional travel to training sites or other facilities. Physical demands include frequent standing, bending, and the ability to lift or move equipment and patients, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
A key component of this role is the Career Advancement Program (CAP). This structured pathway is designed to advance your nephrology career, providing the necessary education and training to progress from an entry-level position to an expert practitioner. Successful completion of CAP requirements is integral to advancing within the organization.
