The Outpatient RN CAP 1 position serves as an entry-level designation within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). As a vital member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) healthcare team, you will be accountable for providing and coordinating clinically competent care, encompassing assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. This role is designed to foster professional growth while ensuring the safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy.
In this capacity, you will participate in decision-making, teaching, and leadership functions that enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations. You will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to identify expected outcomes, update nursing assessments, and ensure patients are aware of treatment modality options, including transplant. The role also involves delegating appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff, such as RNs, LVNs/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians, while serving as a resource for the broader healthcare team and assisting in the orientation of new staff.
This position operates within a healthcare facility characterized by air temperature control and moderate noise levels. The role involves direct patient care, which may include heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation. Employees must be prepared for frequent, prolonged periods of standing and bending. While equipment aids and coworkers may provide assistance, the role may require moving machines and equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. and lifting chemical or water solutions up to 30 lbs.
Daily duties include desk work, computer documentation, and interaction with patients, facility staff, and physicians. There is a potential exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials. The position may also require travel to training sites or other facilities, and employees may be asked to perform essential functions in other locations with similar physical demands.
This role is a foundational step in the Clinical Advancement Program. Successful completion of CAP requirements is necessary to advance within the organization. As you gain experience, you may progress to Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge roles, overseeing Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs, provided you meet specific experience and training milestones.
