The Outdoor Education Assistant Director serves as a vital partner to the Senior Program Director, ensuring the seamless operation of Outdoor Education groups at Camp Erdman. This position is designed to bridge the gap between high-level planning and daily execution, creating a safe, engaging, and memorable experience for campers.
You will play an essential role in overseeing Program Instructors, ensuring they are punctual, prepared, and equipped to lead activities. Your day involves managing staff schedules, maintaining program areas (including the live animal museum and native plant nursery), and handling supply inventory. Beyond logistics, you are a leader on the ground, fostering team spirit, modeling positive relationships with youth, and ensuring every camper feels included and inspired to return.
This is a seasonal opportunity (August 9th – December 12th, 2026) that requires living on-site in camp housing. The role demands a unique blend of leadership, patience, and enthusiasm, with a deep commitment to the YMCA's mission of youth development and community service.
The YMCA is dedicated to creating a safe environment for all children. All staff members share the responsibility of preventing child abuse by upholding professional boundaries and completing mandatory Praesidium training. We require all candidates to successfully complete a comprehensive background screening, including criminal and sex offender checks, before beginning their tenure.
We believe in the power of diversity and inclusion. Our team is built on the values of respect, integrity, and care, ensuring that every child and staff member feels welcome and valued regardless of their background.
Interested candidates should submit their application through our official portal. Please note that this position requires specific certifications (CPR/AED, First Aid, Lifeguard, and High Ropes Facilitator Training) which must be obtained or verified prior to or during the onboarding process.
