As an OR Scrub Technician at Baptist Medical Center South, you will serve as an essential member of the surgical team in our Perioperative area. Your primary mission is to scrub on surgical procedures across all specialties, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and surgical efficiency.
In this role, you will set up assigned cases, maintain a sterile field, and perform accurate counts of items with the circulating nurse. You will be responsible for the care of instruments, supplies, sutures, needles, and basic equipment, as well as managing stocking, cleaning, and inventory. Success in this position requires a deep understanding of aseptic technique, sterilization principles, and strict adherence to OSHA guidelines, safety protocols, and infection control policies. You will also be expected to fulfill verbal and written instructions while navigating the dynamic environment of the operating room.
This position involves a mix of physical activities, including standing for 60% of the workday, walking for 30%, and sitting for 10%. The role requires frequent reaching, use of hands, and repetitive actions, along with occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. You may need to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 150 pounds.
The environment includes exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, and occasional radiation, alongside mechanical and electrical equipment such as autoclaves and intraoperative devices. While the workspace is protected from weather, it may experience temperature changes and noise levels. The role demands continuous visual acuity, clear communication, and the ability to manage high levels of stress.
