This team operates critical laboratory and greenhouse facilities to detect and manage plant pathogens, safeguarding the health of Florida's crops and ecosystems.
As an OPS Laboratory Technician IV, you will serve as a vital support member of the plant pathology team. Your primary mission is to process plant disease samples and assist bacteriologists in testing for bacterial pathogens using advanced molecular techniques, including DNA extraction and qPCR. You will play a hands-on role in preparing culture media, mixing buffers and stains, and maintaining the host plants required for bacterial pathogen inoculations within the greenhouses.
Your day-to-day work involves a blend of precise laboratory tasks and field maintenance. You will operate specialized equipment such as balance scales, centrifuges, and pipettes, while also managing the care of plants in varying environmental conditions. This role requires the ability to work both indoors in a controlled lab setting and outdoors in greenhouses, adapting to hot, cold, and humid environments as well as inclement weather.
