About the Team

The Florida Department of Health is dedicated to protecting, promoting, and improving the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts. Our vision is to be the Healthiest State in the Nation. We operate on a foundation of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness, and Excellence.

Within the Division of Medical Quality Assurance, the Bureau of Enforcement's Consumer Services Unit plays a critical role in safeguarding public health. This team investigates complex medical and allied health complaints, ensuring that hospitals, nursing homes, and licensed practitioners adhere to strict quality assurance principles and state regulations.

About the Role

As an Operations Review Specialist, you will serve as a key investigator and analyst within the Consumer Services Unit. Your primary mission is to analyze and process complex medical complaints, including Code 15 Reports, civil malpractice settlements, and unlicensed pharmacy issues. You will determine conformity with existing standards and develop solutions to resolve these intricate cases.

In this role, you will interpret statutes and regulations to guide investigations, issue subpoenas and citations, and prepare detailed investigative reports for legal review. You will act as a liaison between professional boards, complainants, licensees, and other governmental agencies, often testifying at hearings or mediating complaint resolutions. Your work directly supports the agency's commitment to accountability and excellence in healthcare oversight.

Hiring Process & Application Instructions

To apply, candidates must submit an electronic application with responses to qualifying questions that are verifiable by documentation. The process includes a security background check, fingerprinting, and drug screening. Successful completion of these steps, including participation in direct deposit, is a condition of employment.

Important Eligibility Notes:

  • Male applicants born on or after October 1, 1962, must be registered with the Selective Services System.
  • Veterans are encouraged to apply; eligible candidates may receive employment preference and fee waivers for licensing.
  • Retirees of the Florida Retirement System should verify how re-employment affects current benefits.
  • All candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English.

Candidates requiring reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act must notify the hiring authority or the People First Service Center in advance.

Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

The State of Florida is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Affirmative Action Employer that does not tolerate discrimination or violence in the workplace. We are committed to serving members of the United States Armed Forces, veterans, and their families. Florida supports a drug-free workplace, and all employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug testing. We strive to create an environment where innovation and collaboration thrive to achieve our mission of a healthier state.
