The Director of the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity (DNPA) provides executive leadership and strategic vision for statewide efforts to promote healthy eating, physical activity, and chronic disease prevention. This role is designed to implement policy, systems, and environmental change strategies that contribute to Hoosiers living longer, healthier lives.
In this position, you will oversee a multidisciplinary team spanning policy, epidemiology, evaluation, rural health, nutrition, and community health. You will manage diverse federal and state funding streams, coordinate major statewide partnerships, and guide key initiatives including Indiana’s Obesity and Diet-Related Chronic Disease Plan, the Food is Medicine strategy, and components of the Indiana Rural Health Transformation Project.
As the Director, your day involves reviewing organizational effectiveness and strategic planning to drive improvement. You will develop and coordinate plans, policies, and resources aligned with the agency's mission and vision. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to supervising personnel, including hiring, workload delegation, training, and performance evaluation.
You will also monitor agency budgets, communicate with media regarding applicable laws and rules, and coordinate with other government officials on planning issues. Additionally, you will ensure the use of appropriate controls and standards for the agency, making sound decisions that consider their broader impact and implications.
