The Motorhand serves as a critical support role on the drilling rig, working directly under the direction of the Rig Manager to ensure the safe and efficient operation of essential mechanical systems. The primary mission of this position is to execute regular preventative maintenance and repair activities for generators, main engines, air compressors, portable water systems, drill water manifolds, pumps, and cold start air compressors. By maintaining these systems in optimal condition, the Motorhand prevents downtime and ensures the continual functioning of the mechanical equipment required for drilling operations.
This role requires a high level of situational awareness and physical endurance. The Motorhand performs regular rounds, utilizing sight, sound, and touch to monitor equipment health, anticipating potential issues before they develop into failures. When problems arise, the Motorhand analyzes the situation and implements immediate corrective actions to keep the system operational.
Key daily activities include:
The position demands the ability to maintain focus and alertness during 12-hour tours, often performing repetitive tasks. The Motorhand must be prepared to work 7 or 14 days on and 7 or 14 days off, including holidays, weekends, and night shifts. The role involves significant physical activity, requiring the ability to stand and walk for at least four hours at a time on various surfaces such as steel decking, gravel, board roads, and in conditions involving mud, snow, and ice. The Motorhand must also be capable of lifting and handling heavy items, including pull slips up to 115 lbs, and using hand tools like sledge hammers throughout the shift.
Candidates must have reliable transportation to and from the rig. Successful applicants will be expected to complete the Motorhand training program at the NDUSA training center and demonstrate the ability to wear respiratory protective devices. Those with prior experience as a Floorhand at Nabors Drilling USA or as a Motorhand at another drilling company are encouraged to apply.
