The Mental Health Worker serves as a vital support to professional and technical nursing personnel, playing a key role in the care of behavioral impaired or emotionally disturbed patients. This position is designed to ensure a safe, clean, and supportive environment where patients can receive the attention they need. The role blends direct patient care with essential unit operations, requiring a balance of compassion, vigilance, and practical skill.
In this role, you will be the eyes and hands of the nursing team. Your day involves taking and recording vital signs, assisting patients with hygiene and elimination, and ensuring their safety at all times. Beyond direct care, you will maintain a clean unit environment, stock supplies, operate hospital equipment as directed, and handle routine clerical tasks. You will also provide emotional support and encouragement to behavioral patients, listening to their needs while maintaining strict adherence to infection control procedures and HIPAA compliance.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent and demonstrate prior patient care experience, in-service training, or formal training. AHA Basic Life Support certification is required, along with an understanding of basic medical terminology. Applicants must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English and demonstrate strong customer service skills. Upon starting the job, Management of Assaultive Behavior Certification is required. For Los Angeles City Employees, a Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card is also mandatory.
