The Mental Health Worker serves as a vital support to professional and technical nursing personnel, focusing on the compassionate care of patients with behavioral impairments or emotional disturbances. This role is essential for maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and clean unit environment where patients can receive the support they need.
In this position, you will be the eyes and ears on the floor, actively engaging in caring behaviors that demonstrate conscious ownership of your work. You will take a proactive and thoughtful approach to daily activities, utilizing independent judgment to ensure patient safety and well-being. Your day will involve a blend of clinical support and emotional connection, assisting patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as hygiene, elimination, and comfort measures while respecting their age, gender, culture, and personal preferences.
Beyond direct patient care, you will play a key role in operational safety and compliance. You will accurately monitor and document vital signs, recognize changes in patient conditions, and manage patient belongings. You will also assist with specimen collection, patient transportation, and the maintenance of infection control and HIPAA compliance standards. Success in this role requires a balance of technical accuracy in documentation and the ability to provide emotional support and encouragement to those in need.
