About the Team

The Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) is dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare and advancing medical science. Within the Clinical Laboratory, our team ensures the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic testing that supports patient care across the Medical University of South Carolina. We pride ourselves on a culture of energetic and enthusiastic collaboration, where every member plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of laboratory results.

About the Role

As a Medical Technologist, you will be the backbone of our clinical laboratory operations, supporting high-quality testing through a blend of technical expertise and critical problem-solving. Your day will involve preparing specimens, performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, and executing rigorous quality control procedures. You will be responsible for troubleshooting instrument errors, evaluating computer data issues, and performing preventative maintenance to ensure seamless operations.

Beyond the bench, this role requires clear communication of technical information to both medical professionals and laypersons. You will also assist in training laboratory personnel and participate in continuing education to stay at the forefront of the field. This position is a Career Ladder opportunity, offering a clear path for professional growth within the organization.

Work Environment & Schedule

This role operates on a rotating night shift schedule from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, requiring flexibility to work overtime as needed. The environment is fast-paced and demands the ability to manage stressful situations effectively while maintaining precision. The physical nature of the job includes standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs, as well as working in confined spaces and elevated areas. A latex-safe environment is maintained, and specific roles may require the ability to work in temperature extremes or maintain olfactory sensory functions.

Hiring Process & Application

We are looking for candidates who hold a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related scientific discipline, along with at least one year of clinical laboratory experience. Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) is required; if not certified upon hiring, you must be registry eligible and obtain certification within your first year.

Internal candidates must meet Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements, while external candidates are required to complete these requirements within 90 days of starting. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply and will receive consideration based on qualifications, merit, and business need.
