This position serves as a vital support role within the Southwest Mesa Clinic, bridging clinical and administrative functions to ensure seamless patient care. As a Medical Assistant, you will work across a diverse patient demographic, including neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. The role is designed to uphold the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home, fostering an environment where patient safety and quality service are paramount.
You will be responsible for a dynamic mix of front and back-office duties. Your day will involve collecting patient data and medical histories, performing basic cashiering tasks, and coordinating appointments. Clinically, you will assist providers with treatment procedures, prepare sterile fields, and perform routine non-invasive tasks such as vital signs, urine dipsticks, and EKGs. Depending on your certification and training, you may also perform invasive procedures like phlebotomy, ear irrigation, and catheterization, as well as administer medications following strict safety protocols.
Patient safety is a proactive priority in this role. You are expected to identify and report environmental risks, communicate potential medical errors or near misses, and encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions about treatments or conditions that do not seem right. Maintaining a sanitary work area and ensuring the accuracy of patient data are essential daily responsibilities.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent and be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or have two years of MA experience documented on a DD Form 214. While no minimum experience is required, bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is highly valued. Successful candidates must complete the UNMH MA Safe Med Admin Course within 90 days and obtain CPR for Healthcare/BLS certification within 30 days.
A sign-on bonus is available for qualified applicants. Please note that this role may require travel to various work sites, rotation of shifts, and adherence to specific safety protocols regarding chemical and biohazardous materials.
We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for both our patients and staff. This position requires adherence to all hospital and departmental policies, with a specific focus on patient safety and environmental hygiene. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background and encourage individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
