You will join the Movement Disorder Clinic, a specialized unit within the Clinical Nursing Support department dedicated to providing comprehensive care across the lifespan. Our team serves a diverse patient population, including neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. We are committed to the principles of the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and Patient Centered Specialty Practice, ensuring that every interaction is rooted in safety, quality, and patient-centered values.
As a Medical Assistant in this dynamic clinic, you will serve as a vital bridge between patients and providers, managing both front-office administrative tasks and essential clinical support duties. Your day will involve a blend of patient intake, data management, and hands-on clinical procedures. You will assist in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, collect patient medical histories, and perform routine non-invasive treatments such as vital signs, saturation checks, and urine dipsticks. Depending on your certification and training, you may also perform invasive procedures including phlebotomy, ear irrigation, catheterization, and EKGs.
Beyond clinical care, you will play a key role in the operational flow of the clinic. This includes scheduling appointments, verifying medical coverage, managing the cash register, and maintaining a sterile, sanitary work environment. You will be expected to document clinical findings accurately, administer medications following strict safety protocols, and ensure that all equipment is stocked and functional. A proactive approach to patient safety is central to this role; you will be encouraged to question current processes, identify environmental risks, and empower patients to actively participate in their own care.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Medical Assistant program or possess two years of MA experience as documented on a DD Form 214. Successful applicants will need to complete the UNMH MA Safe Med Admin Course within 90 days of hire and obtain CPR for Healthcare/BLS certification within the same timeframe. A sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We actively seek bilingual candidates proficient in English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo to better serve our community. Our culture emphasizes patient safety, continuous improvement, and high-quality service.
