As a Marine Electrician, you will be responsible for the repair, installation, replacement, and testing of electrical circuits, cables, equipment, and systems within a shipyard environment. This role requires a hands-on approach to maintaining the integrity of shipboard electrical infrastructure, ensuring all systems operate safely and efficiently.
You will work from complex drawings, blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to install ground leads, connect power cables to motors, and place conduit, pipes, or tubing within designated partitions and concealed areas. A key part of your day involves pulling insulated wires through conduit to complete circuits and using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes to confirm system compatibility and safety. You will also diagnose faulty systems and apparatus using hand tools to identify breakdowns and implement corrections.
This position demands a candidate with at least three years of recent experience working as a marine electrician in a shipyard. You must possess a working knowledge of ship repair procedures, terminology, and compartment naming conventions, along with the ability to comprehend complex mechanical drawings and general correspondence. Proficiency with basic electrical meters, including volt-ohm meters, clamp-on ammeters, and insulation resistance testers, is essential.
This role involves working under extreme hot or cold conditions. Team members must be physically capable of standing for the entire shift, using hands for various tasks, ascending stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. The position requires the ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs and specific vision abilities, including close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
