The Norfolk Ship Repair Facility is seeking a Marine Electrician 1st Class Mechanic to support our ship repair operations. This role is vital to maintaining the readiness of naval vessels, ensuring that electrical systems and equipment are troubleshooted, repaired, and installed to the highest standards of safety and quality.
As a Marine Electrician 1st Class Mechanic, you will work in a heavy industrial environment to maintain and sustain a safe working atmosphere. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve troubleshooting and repairing complex electrical systems aboard ships. You will review job packets to determine relevant drawings, cross-referencing Navy Standards Items, ISO 9000 procedures, IEEE standards, and Chapter 300 EPISM.
You will be responsible for laying out jobs by identifying installation equipment requirements, such as hangers, boxes, conduit, and power distribution panels. The role requires conducting rip-outs of systems using hand and power tools, installing control and distribution apparatus, and determining cable paths using blueprints and job orders. You will install electrical and electronic circuits by following schematics, pulling cables through designated conduits, and properly securing them. Additionally, you will ensure all circuitry work is correctly identified and tagged with metal tags carrying the circuit number.
This position demands the ability to work individually and within a team setting. You must be capable of carrying a tool bag weighing 20-30 pounds and navigating confined spaces, including entering and exiting standard horizontal and vertical manholes. The role requires physical agility to climb ladders, stand, sit, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, and work with arms extended at shoulder level and above.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED and have a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in the trade. A working knowledge of shipboard electrical systems, installations, troubleshooting procedures, and repairs is essential. You must be able to read and interpret work specifications, technical drawings, military specifications, and NAVSEA Standard Items.
